February 8 - congratulations to all our state meet qualifiers! The state meet is on Thursday, Feb 11 at Hillhouse. See the home page for a full list of Wethersfield individual qualifiers.
We're heading in with some aggressive goals. For the girls, the challenge is to score as many points as the last two years combined (9). It will be a team effort if we pull it off, as we'll need to score in the 55 dash, the 300 dash, and the 4x200 relay. We're also hoping to break the school record in the relay after having just missed it at the conference championships a couple weeks ago. And our stretch goal? Qualify at least one entry for the State Open.
The boys are hoping to challenge for the state championships, with the top three being more realistic. We're not as deep as in years past, so have no room for error and probably need some help. We're hoping for state champions in the pole vault and the 4x400 relay, and a State Open qualifier in the shot put and 300 Meter Dash. Additional scoring will hopefully come from the sprint medley relay, the 600, and the 4x200 relay.
Good luck everybody!
February 2 - Unfortunately, our season was cut short a bit when the weather forced a meet cancellation at Glastonbury last week. We were able to get in the CCC Championship meet on Saturday, with mixed results. Our girls 4x200 just missed the school record and finished 6th. For the boys, Ben Nalette and Franco Serrao were conference champions and earned all-conference status for their efforts. Congratulations guys! Other highlights included Tyler Murphy 5th in the long jump and improved his state qualifying jump, the 4x400 was 3rd, and Kevin Amarucci was 8th in the 600 and improved his state qualifying time.
Next is the Last Ditch Invite at Wesleyan on Saturday, Feb 6. We're only taking a few individuals, in hopes that they will qualify for the state championships or improve their qualifying mark. Bus time is 7:40.
The state championships are on Thursday, Feb 11 at Hillhouse. Start time is 4:00.
January 18 - Our regular season is just about over, with just one meet remaining. So far, we've done quite well and we coaches are pleased with our progress. The rookies are learning and getting better, while the veterans are competing well and have numerous state qualifying performances. Be sure to check out the results page for all Wethersfield results and links to full meet results. A list of our state qualifiers is on the home page.
We've now had three school records: Tyler Murphy in the triple jump, Ben Nalette in the pole vault, and the boys 4 x 400 (Chris Priore, Tommy Pytel, Kevin Amarucci, and Tyler Murphy). Congratulations to all of you!
We're beginning to look forward to the championship portion of our season and are anticipating some great things, particularly at our state championships. Hard to believe, but our conference is tougher than our state meet. It will be very difficult to come away from the CCC meet as an all-conference qualifier (top three in each individual event and top two relays). We haven't finalized either roster yet as we have some options, particularly on the boys side.
December 30, 2009 - We competed in the Hillhouse Winter Relays yesterday and came away with mixed results. We had some great performances and some not so great performances. The good news is that the latter happened now and not later in the championship meets. We did have some state qualifiers: boys sprint medley (Kevin Amarucci, Chris Priore, Tommy Pytel, Igor Stojcevic), girls 4x200 (Jess Trinh, Rachel Silva, Amanda Pace, Ashley Niemiec), and Tyler Murphy in the long jump. Also, Kayla Lapointe had a huge PR in the shot put. Congrats to all! Also, thanks to Tommy, Jack, Amanda, Igor, and Rachel for filling out relays at the last minute.
Top finishers on the day were Ben Nalette - 1st in the pole vault, Franco Serrao - 2nd in the shot put, Tyler Murphy - 2nd in the long jump, boys pole vault team (Ben, CJ Wright, and Andrew Aronne) - 2nd place, and boys 4x400 (Chris Priore, Tommy Pytel, Kevin Amarucci, Tyler Murphy) - 3rd place.
December 18, 2009 - The girls competed at the Wesleyan Developmental #4 last night and like the boys, did a great job. The nerves from last Saturday were gone, we had quite a few PR's (personal records) and overall had a great meet. Now that everybody has competed we now have a baseline to compare the rest of the season to. Our job going forward is to keep learning and to become better. Keep up the hard work and the positive attitudes and it'll happen!
December 16, 2009 - The boys competed at the Wesleyan Developmental #3 meet last night and did a great job. It was a perfect meet for our young kids as it was low key, just ten teams, and most athletes young kids just starting out. It was fun to watch our kids compete for the first time. Now our job is to learn from this meet so that we can become better.
A special shout out to Seth Nalette - dude, you've gotten fast and to go from 23-05 in the shot at your first meet last year to 34+ is a wow moment. Keep up the good work!

Our first indoor track meet is tomorrow and we coaches are looking forward to it. Our returning athletes appear ahead of where they were last year and our rookies have been looking great. The rookies have been nice to work with - they're enthusiastic, want to try new things, and are working hard. It's difficult to tell how good the team is since we don't have an indoor facility and have been outside in sweats everyday, but we're hoping for some great things. Should be fun!
