June 29: Time to get in shape for the upcoming season! Cross Country is a 100% conditionining sport, with no skill development needed like in soccer, field hockey, or football. To help with this, we have captains practices available Monday-Saturday at 8:30 AM. M-F are at the high school track and Sat at Millwoods. The summer training program is available on the home page.
We are doing away with the low/mid/high mileage training groups this year and will instead be going to rookie/veteran/high mileage veteran groups. Veterans, this means you won't be allowed in the low mileage group. We will consolidate the rookie/veteran groups midway through the season, although some rookies will likely be moved up sooner. Track sprinters should be with the rookie group and will have alternative track workouts for some of our workouts.
And yes, we have fun! If we have a Saturday meet we will have a fun day, usually comprised of ultimate frisbie or "the tennis ball game." We'll have some other fun stuff throughout the season as well, including Log Tag, Alaskan Baseball, and other games.
We have a large group of veterans returning this year, with a record # of freshmen that signed up this spring. I'm expecting about 42 to show on the first day of practice, which will give us the largest team in school history.
Analyzing the returning conference runners, we should be anywhere from 3rd-5th in the conference. Glastonbury again figures to be the favorite. Our success will come with depth and if we can break up the top three runners from other teams. We have been assigned Class MM for the state championship and should finish anywhere from 6th-12th after having been 14th in Class L in 2009.
