Coach Jeff Sanborn:

Coach Sanborn has been coaching Cross Country/Track & Field a total of 18 years, including 1990-1998 and 2005-present at Wethersfield.  He is currently the head coach for the Eagles boys XC and boys/girls indoor track teams, and assistant coach for the boys outdoor track team.  In addition to coaching at Wethersfield, Sanborn has coached at South Burlington, VT, the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, and Southington and Hall High Schools in Connecticut.  He has coached two state runner-up teams (one each in VT and CT), been assistant for three state champion teams, and assistant coach for four national NCAA III champion teams.

Prior to entering the coaching ranks, Sanborn competed in both high school and college XC/TF and was a three time state runner-up and five time state champion in high school (Wayland Academy, Beaver Dam, WI). He also competed on the national runner-up NCAA III XC team (UW-LaCrosse) in 1987.

Sanborn currently resides in Wethersfield and works full-time as an assistant manager at Healthtrax Fitness & Wellness in Newington.

Assistant Coach Brian Gaudreau:

Coach Gaudreau enters his first year as assistant coach for the WHS Eagles XC team.   He is currently the Gideon Welles Run Club coach at a 6th grade school in Glastonbury.  The Run Club serves as an introduction to both cross country and track & field.  This will be the third year of the program, and the first group of Run Club members will be freshmen in the 2010-2011 school year.  Prior to coaching cross country, he served as an assistant coach for the Newington High School ice hockey team from 2002-2004.

He is a graduate of Newington High School and Plymouth State University, NH.  After playing two years of Division III hockey for PSU, he replaced his skates with a snowboard and a pair of running shoes.  This October he will racing in the Hartford Marathon making his second attempt to qualify for the Boston Marathon (3:10 / 7:15).

Coach Gaudreau resides in Wethersfield and is currently in his 8th year as a physical education teacher in Glastonbury.  His favorite workout leading up to a 5K race is 4x1200 and 2x800 at the Wethersfield Town Green.  Of note:  Coach Gaudreau is anxious to see track runners Kevin and Chris make the full transformation into true XC runners.

Captain Joe Bruno:

Joe has been a key member of our team since his freshman year in 2007, and was our top runner his junior year. He has been a varsity member of our team since his freshman year, and has earned letters in both indoor and outdoor track.  He is looking to be all-conference in the CCC North and possibly all-state this year in XC.  He was an alternate for the 4x800m relay for the 2009 state championship team.  Joe is looking forward to a fun upcoming season. His favorite course is Stanley Quarter Park, and his favorite practice is a solid 10 mile run at Riverside Park in Hartford.

When not running, Joe likes to play sports (frisbee, basketball, and many others), hang out with friends, spend time with family, cook, and be interested in politics.  Joe is an avid Red Sox and UConn basketball fan as well.  He also enjoys after practice talks with Coach Sanborn and Coach Gaudreau.
